JUKEBOXES

A jukebox is a partially automated music-playing device, usually a coin-operated machine, that will play a patron's selection from self-contained media. The classic jukebox has buttons, with letters and numbers on them, which are used to select a specific record. Some may use compact discs instead.

The first jukebox is installed at the Palais Royale Saloon in San Francisco in 1889. It becomes an overnight sensation, and its popularity spreads around the world.

Amidst the Roaring Twenties, jukeboxes played in many a speakeasy. The mechanism played a key role in the birth of one of the first selective jukeboxes ever, which was debuted in 1927 by the Automated Musical Instrument Company (which eventually became AMI).

The late 1930's and early 1940's saw an influx of light and decoration for the jukebox. Jukeboxes were most popular from the 1940s through the mid-1960s.

The most iconic jukebox of all time was released by the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company—the 1015 model (aka, the Bubbler). The 1015 model had tubes of flowing bubbles that moved along the machine's arched top.

The digital jukebox shown at right can store and play 200,000 songs, the equivalent of a stack of 45 records taller than the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. Handcrafted by Rock-Ola, the premiere manufacturer of jukeboxes for almost a century, this digital player holds a terabyte of tunes, allowing you to listen continuously for over a year and not hear the same song twice.

A 425-watt RMS amplifier delivers rich sound from the system’s five speakers (two 2x3" tweeters, two 6 1/2" full range speakers, and a 10" dual voice coil powered sub-woofer).

The iconic rounded cabinet is hand-formed from premium hardwood, finished in piano-quality lacquer, and trimmed in triple-plated polished die-cast metal.

The modern 19" touchscreen display is contrasted by brightly colored bubble tubes lining the cabinet that lend a distinctive retro vibe. Also streams music from a phone or tablet via Blutetooth or downloads songs from a USB device. AC plug.
