Farming is the growing of crops and keeping animals for food and is a part of agriculture. Agriculture started thousands of years ago, but no one knows for sure how old it is.

Farming for the market is a business. It is a business in that farmers use land, labor, and capital for the produce of goods to be sold. Such farming is done in the hope and expectation of profit as are all other businesses.

Organic farming was actually initiated as an answer to the environmental sufferings caused by the use of chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilisers. In other words, organic farming is a new system of farming or agriculture that repairs, maintains, and improves the ecological balance.

A hobby farm can have different definitions. But the basic idea is that a hobby farm is a small-scale farm that is primarily for pleasure instead of being a business venture. A hobby farm is categorized as less than 50 acres. Anything between 50 to 100 acres is considered a small-scale farm.

A hobby farm is typically a smaller scale farm that you start purely for the enjoyment of doing it, hence the word "hobby." While in some cases you may sell some of your produce, financial profit is not your intention. Farmers play a vital role in our well being, providing a wide variety of foods.
